BARBERING DIPLOMA- 535 hours

 

Program Length – 20 weeks
Introducing our Government recognized Barbering Program. Covering a wide range of techniques in unisex hair design with a focus on men’s’ haircutting, styling, grooming, and shaving. During the course, students will also learn about successful work habits, business ethics, and right attitude to succeed.

Students can expect to learn a variety of hands-on technical skills as well as an extensive coverage of the following topics:

  • The History of Barbering
  • Life Skills- Human relations
  • Infection Control, First Aid, and microbiology
  • Cutting tools and Essentials
  • Treatment of the Hair and Scalp
  • Men’s Facial Treatments
  • Classic Barber techniques
  • Clipper work and fades
  • Beard & moustache design
  • Facial Hair Design and grooming
  • Scalp Massage & Scalp Treatments
  • Basic Hair Tattooing
  • Hot shaves and facial massage
  • Scissor over comb
  • Straight Razor Shaving
  • Foundational Hair cutting and Styling
  • Tapered Cuts and Fades
  • The Business of Barbering
  • Barbershop experience

Course content includes:

  • Basic practical theory, covering in depth and advanced level subject matter in hair and beauty
  • Intensive training in client service.
  • Government licensing: prepare and practice both theory and practical exam
  • Infection control and anatomy
  • Hair styling wet and dry
  • Head massage, hot towel, hair treatment, hand massage
  • Facial, Hair design & Grooming
  • Personal Image / Fashion design
  • Design fashion and hair
  • Men haircut, barber, design hair tattoo
  • Competition in house and Hair show training
  • Communication skills

Financing/Requirements

  • Government Grants, Student Loans & Self Pay Option with NO Additional Fees.
  • Alberta Student Loan
  • Requirement: 19 years or older with all provinces with the exception of Alberta (As per Alberta apprenticesship board requirements).
